Ironically, I wrote this back before I'd started reading Chuubo's Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine.
A wish must be both selfish and selfless. Complete selfishness is greed, and greed is not from the heart. Complete selflessness is a rare grace, and for it to be heartfelt is rarer still. But that is the path of the martyr, not the dreamer. The quick burning of the spirit, not the warm candle of the heart. Both are needed in this darkness. But only a wisher can look to the stars. And given that you're here, haven't you made your choice?
