Doing my reading for 21F.039 (Ian Condry's CMSy Japanese Popular Culture class), I just noticed the similarities between Japanese anime/manga otaku and the fanfic community. Not terribly profound, but interesting.

While waiting to give blood

I'd never been bothered by the Red Cross (or other medical thingies) asking for my gender, because they have legitimate reason. Still, they get bonus points for specifying biological gender.
